Ever since my childhood, I have loved languages. As a result, I filled my preparatory school schedule with every language possible. After achieving my diploma, it was an obvious choice to continue post-secondary study of language, and one that I did not yet know: Spanish.
At Utrecht University, I completed the bachelor’s program ‘Spanish Language and Culture’ followed by the ‘Translation’ master’s program.
My career as a professional translator started at a software company, where I gained a great knowledge base. Next, I was able to fulfill my dream of living and working in the United States. I was employed there as a project coordinator and translator at a translation agency. Naturally, while there I gained necessary knowledge related to translation programs, and speaking English daily was also truly helpful.
Having returned to the Netherlands, I started as an independent translator in April 2015. Simultaneously, through a position as a translation agency project manager, I learned in-depth about the business side of a translation agency. This knowledge is regularly of value, for example when preparing quotes for translation projects.
In the meantime, I have discovered that my heart truly lies in translation work itself. Since February 1, 2017, I am a full-time, freelance translator and I do this work daily with great pleasure. Thanks to my career experience, I have already built up a valuable network. I am in regular contact with colleague translators and I am closely involved in developments within the translation field.
